Celebrated in the British community, Remembrance Day is an annual event in our nursery when we remember all those who have died serving their country in wars, by wearing poppies. On this special day, the children found out what it means to be brave, why it is important to be courageous. During circle time, they spoke about heroes, what they do and also shared moments when they felt brave. Throughout the week, the children bought and wore poppies and together we raised 1007 lei, which will be used to help the children of Romanian soldiers killed in action. Thank you for supporting our poppy appeal!

Story Time with Liam, Annie’s brother, was an exciting experience for Early Explorers this being the first time they met a real soldier! They found out why soldiers wear a uniform, and what each part is for, why the uniform is green (to not be seen in the forest), what the badge on Liam’s beret means.  The children were interested to hear why soldiers receive medals and how they are brave, that they protect and help people in different emergency situations, not just in times of war. Together they discovered what Remembrance Day is, why poppies are so important and how they came to be used as a symbol of this event. At the end of the session, the children asked whether girls can join the army and Liam was proud to tell them that he has 3 female colleagues and that anybody can join the army to be brave, to protect others.

Thank you Liam for inspiring our children to be brave and courageous!
